Word Descrambler
Type your scrambled letters and the descrambler puts them back in order. You'll see every real word they spell, from answers that use all the letters down to short two letter words.
Starts, ends and contains letters count as letters already on the board, so they are not taken from your rack.
What a word descrambler does
A descrambler checks your letters against a list of 172,000 English words and shows every word they can spell. You don't need to use every letter, so a jumble of six letters usually gives dozens of answers.
Descrambling and unscrambling mean the same thing. If you only want words that use every letter exactly once, use the anagram solver instead.
When a descrambler helps
- Word scramble puzzles in newspapers, apps and worksheets. See the word scramble solver.

- Letter wheel games like Wordscapes, Text Twist and Word Cookies. Set Shortest to 3 in Advanced options.

Tips for better results
- Missing a letter? Type ? in its place. The descrambler tries all 26 letters there.
- Letters already on a board? Add them under Starts with, Ends with or Contains, so they join the word without using your own letters.
- Too many results? Set a length, or leave out letters you know aren't in the word.

Questions
Is a word descrambler the same as a word unscrambler?
Yes. Both take a jumble of letters and find the real words hidden in it. This page and the word unscrambler use the same word list and the same search.
How many letters can I descramble?
Up to 15. Use ? or a space for each blank or unknown letter, and * to find longer words built around your letters.
Can it descramble a whole sentence?
No. It finds single words. To work out a scrambled sentence, descramble one word at a time.
Which words does it know?
The ENABLE word list, which many word games use. Turn on Show more words in Advanced options to add about 100,000 rarer words.
